Military Sea Hawkers Newsletter: Seahawks trade for TE Jimmy Graham, extend Marshawn Lynch
It’s been a few weeks since last time I sent out a newsletter to the group, and with the news yesterday I thought it would be the perfect time. Jimmy Graham is going to be a member of the Seahawks, but unfortunately it also means Seattle gives up Max Unger as part of the deal.
You can also cancel your plans for a first round draft party. Unless the Seahawks make a deal to move up (not likely, but we didn’t see the trade for Graham coming either), Seattle will have gone three years without picking in round one. On the bright side, Pete Carroll and John Schneider have been pick 25 or higher each of those year. I’ll take Seahawks playoff parties over first round draft parties any day.
Other great news from this past week: Marshawn Lynch agreed to a two-year extension of his contract which keeps him a member of the Seahawks through the 2017 season if he decides to play that long.
A couple of volunteer requests of note coming up. Special Olympics is looking for volunteers at JBLM as well as an event in the Tacoma area. Also, there is an Evergreen Speedway event by another Sea Hawkers chapter coming up where they are asking for volunteers. Click on the links on the right side of the newsletter for more information.
The late item of note is that nominations for Sea Hawker of the Year are now open and due to March 27 to Gary Holden. His contact information is on the website.
Hope you enjoy this week’s Sea Hawkers Podcast! We’re planning to go week-to-week this offseason and this week we had plans to talk about free agent tight ends when the news of the Jimmy Graham trade came down. I think it made for a more interesting show. One cool military-related aspect to Graham is that he toured the Middle East with the USO and has consistently shown support for the military and military families.
GO HAWKS!!!

Sea Hawkers podcast: Jimmy Graham trade, Marshawn Lynch signs extension, Geoff Baker talks about the super bowl ticket fiasco
The news about the Jimmy Graham trade to the Seahawks broke as we sat down to record the show this week. Brandan breaks down what the Seahawks may have been thinking in going after Jimmy Graham and what he means to this team inside the Red Zone.
News of Marshawn Lynch extending his contract for two additional years was a highlight this past week. With a three-year deal now on the books, it looks likely that he’ll remain with the Seahawks for the rest of his career and eventually earn him a spot on the team’s Ring of Honor. The guys talk about other free agent news, including a look at our division rivals as every team except the Niners seems to be improving in some way.
Geoff Baker, investigative reporter for the Seattle Times, visits the show to talk about two stories since the Super Bowl about fans who either went through well known ticket sites or purchased “options” to buy tickets at face value. He talks about why prices rose to an artificially high rate and why some fans might have been willing to pay extraordinary prices to salvage the weekend.
The guys shout out to some fellow podcasters in the final segment, announce the new Sea Hawkers Podcast app in the Amazon app store, and offer their “Do Better” nods. Richard Sherman and Russell Wilson are Brandan’s “Better at Life” picks, while John Schneider gets Adam’s vote for pulling off a trade nobody saw coming.
