First of all I want to congratulate Joe Stone and Anthony Millsap who were selected for the Raiders tickets. Thanks to everyone who dropped an email requesting tickets — it was not an easy decision for us to make. We’re going to be on the lookout for other ticket donors so we can help get more people to the game.
If your idea of a preseason game is what we’ve seen in the past, then that has definitely changed. Last year the fans were outstanding in preseason, but this year was another level. Maybe not quite to the level of a regular season game, but awfully close to it.
If nothing else, it was great to see the Seahawks continue their run of preseason dominance against the Broncos on Saturday. Their 40-10 win wasn’t anything like their late run against the Chargers third stringers. The Seahawks put 33 points on the board against the Broncos first team! The defense was extremely physical and is really what made the difference in the game.
Jermaine Kearse caught a Russell Wilson pass for a touchdown on the first drive of the game. After the Broncos got on the board with their first touchdown to make it 10-7, Kearse returned a kickoff for 107 yards and the Broncos didn’t score again until a late-game field goal.
Peyton Manning, however, did throw the ball all over the field, but luckily it was that physical defense and turnovers that kept the Broncos from scoring more than they did. I felt like by the time halftime rolled around and they started putting in the backups that I actually had a full game worth of football with all of the scoring.
The Packers are up next, so prepare to see at least a dozen replays of the Golden Tate catch. Was it a catch or not? At this point it really doesn’t matter. It’s in the record books as a catch so I think that’s about all you need to say at this point. If a Green Bay fan was really in my face about it, I’d have no problem conceding that it was an interception. It’s not like mine or any one else’s opinion is going to change a call that is nearly a year old.
Green Bay’s offensive line has taken a beating this preseason, so I at least would like to see the Hawks get a little more pressure on Rodgers than they did on Manning. Peyton had all day to throw and Seattle really only put one good hit on him, so if there’s one thing I’m watching for it will be an improvement out of the starting defensive line.
Finally, I want to pass along another reminder that you can help support the Military Sea Hawkers by mentioning Account #052113953 when you sign up for DirecTV service for the first time. Not only will you get $10 off your bill for 10 months, but it’ll put $100 toward helping the club. Oh, and in case you haven’t year, you’ll also get “football on your phone.”
GO HAWKS!!!

seahawks vs. Packers on afn and dts
That’s three in a row for our troops serving overseas! Can we get every game on AFN this year? I hope so, because this would be the year for it. We’re off to a good start. Just remember that once the regular season is underway, AFN Sports has taken votes for the game of the week via their Facebook page. So watch that so we can have our voices heard that we want to see our Seahawks play all season long on AFN.
You’ll find the Seahawks game against the Packers live on AFN Sports or DTS Sports at 1700 PST/0000 GMT/0430 AFG.
The sea Hawkers podcast: Episode Three
We are running a bit late on the podcast this week, but we are planning on recording tonight so it is available before the game Friday. It’s definitely the preseason for us, too, but hopefully we’ll have a solid schedule once the regular season rolls out.
Check in with us as we recap the game against the Broncos, look at the Packers game, have a bit of fun at Jim Harbaugh’s expense and finish with our picks of who is better at life than Skip Bayless. There was also a great article about the Seahawks in the recent edition of ESPN the Magazine. You can check it out in the featured links to the right.
The podcast is on iTunes and also available through FeedBurner. You can also check out our Facebook page. Even if you can’t listen to the show, like our page and we’ll provide you with some of the content we talk about on the show.
