Nate Burleson has signed on with the Detroit Lions ending his time in Seattle that most of us remember beginning somewhat bittersweet.
His signing came on the heels of Seattle losing Steve Hutchinson to the Vikings over a shady contract stipulation. The Seahawks put similar provision in Burleson’s contract to get him to Seattle.
So who
will the Hawks look to for a replacement. Right now the top candidate may be Brandon Marshall, a restricted free agent with the Broncos who is known for some off-the-field and was a bit of a whiner after losing his former QB Jay Cutler to the Bears.
Seattle has said they
are interested in negotiating with the Broncos, but the latest reports are the Broncos aren’t willing to accept anything less than the required compensation of a first-round pick — which would be the Seahawks 6th pick.
Marshall definitely has the talet to
warrant giving up the 6th pick overall, but with personality issues you
have to wonder if he’s going to be able to coexist with Houshmandzadeh who was just as vocal about his request for the ball last year. The new coaches do have some history with Marshall, so maybe with the new
staff coming on they can figure out a way to make things right for everyone. T.J. got along just fine alongside Ochocinco, so why couldn’t things work out here?
It’s not as easy call, especially not
knowing if the right player for Seattle will be on the board at #6. But at any postion in the first round, you never know if you’re going to get an impact player and Marshall is that type of guy.
I’d
like to see it happen, but I’d also feel better if they could make it happen with some lower draft picks. The Hawks need a lot of help and those two first-round picks could help immensely.
